Be a Long Term Care Volunteer Ombudsman

Advocates are WANTED and NEEDED in nursing homes! You can be qualified as a representative of the Board on Aging & Long Term Care in the role of a Volunteer Ombudsman. You can make a difference in the lives of people living in area nursing homes.

With the largest expansion in the Board's history the Volunteer Ombudsman Program currently operates in approximately 26 counties with offices in the following regions: Madison area, Milwaukee area, Stevens Point area, Green Bay area, and La Crosse area  (click for map and details).

Volunteers must: 

  • Give of their time to make a difference
  • Undergo a criminal background check, at our agency's expense
  • Give a 6 month commitment
  • Attend mandatory 7 hour initial training
  • Participate in continuing education in-services 
  • Provide their own transportation
  • Make unannounced weekly visits to an assigned facility
  • Spend 2-3 hours at a time between 8:00 AM –8:00 PM at the facility 

The Volunteer Services Supervisor and the Volunteer Coordinators will ensure proper training, guidance, and support throughout the entire volunteer experience.
